With an idea ahead of it’s time, Irene started Meal In A Jar from her home kitchen. Like many families today, her household was full of working professionals, so the was lots of demand for ready-to-eat, grab-n’-go meals. Using a mason jar from her kitchen counter, Irene artfully layered ingredients for a meal and by doing so highlighted the simplicity and beauty in food. Then by snapping a few pics and posting to Facebook before sending the Meal In A Jar off with her daughter, a business was born! Friends encouraged Irene to start a business page on Facebook, and the response was immediate with 51 likes on the first day. Soon orders started rolling in and Irene’s life hasn’t ever been the same since that day in 2013. Today, Irene is a veteran of Dragon’s Den, Loblaws, Longo’s and is busy franchising a successful business model. With so many working from home nowadays, the subscription meal plans coupled with MSG-free clean eating, the numbers are right on target for this Kitchener-Waterloo based business to grow, and grow, and keep growing.
